The first iPad was received with skepticism; people thought that their laptops covered the same bases better. But then, the real intent of the iPad started to become more obvious. They became hot, sales and profits soared upwards and suddenly all of the leading computer and cell phone companies wanted to get in on the action. Suddenly, Tablets were in all the retail stores. Of course, Dell is targeting to get a piece of the action. The product Dell is placing its hopes on is what they're calling Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet. Whether this tablet makes the grade and is worth the money is what we are going to try to find out in this article.
It's easier to recommend a product when the company that manufactures it has a good name - that, however, is not the case with Dell. Quality and reliability are not trademarks of Dell's past offerings. The company's customer service track record is likewise on rather shaky ground. From customer feedback, it looks like the moment your warranty lapses, you are going to be charged for making service calls. So, while this gadget is in all likelihood going to be one of the more affordable tablets on the market, you need to take some time to think about who you will be paying that money to.
Multitasking is made possible by the tablet's operating system, a version of the Android OS nicknamed "Froyo." You can listen to Mp3s, keep your GPS data up-to-date, and be given notice of different things through the system's notification service without being forced to keep any specific app open and running. You won't have to worry about being unreachable with this Dell tablet; communications via Gmail and other email setups are possible.
One of the good things about the Streak 7 tablet that was not a component of the original iPad design is video chat. This Dell tablet, employing Qik software and a front-facing panel cam, offers video chat. But oh dear, yes, there is a caveat: someone who owns the same Streak 7 tablet, or something compatible, presents no problem - otherwise, incommunicado you will be. So video chatting with people using other platforms is not ensured. A bonus for this tablet is the integrated offering of the On Demand service from Blockbuster. We're not so sure that this is a good feature, after all, because of the problems Blockbuster has had in the past several months.
Reviews right now are only a handful, but it does appear that a lot of people are leery as to the reasons why this tablet was createdd. The tablet's functionality is pretty limited through its lack of capability to interact with devices that aren't compatible with this particular Dell tablet. Nevertheless, a keen desire for a tablet computer coupled with a limited budget could make the Dell Streak 7 a perfect way to familiarize yourself with the technology. Bearing in mind the aforementioned caveats, do consider your purchase cautiously prior to committing your money.
